Graduate of University of Toronto (MSc, 2018). Arjun has personally reviewed or written over 800 SOPs. He leads strategy, quality control, and handles the most complex applications himself.
From one student's
struggle to a global mission.
In 2016, Arjun Sharma — then a final-year engineering student in Kathmandu — spent three months writing and rewriting his SOP for graduate programs in the United States. He had a strong academic record, solid research experience, and a clear vision. But when rejections came, he realized something most students never get told: the quality of your story matters as much as your grades.
After eventually getting accepted to a master's program in Canada — and helping two classmates rewrite their applications afterward — Arjun saw a pattern. Students from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and developing regions were consistently underselling themselves in their written documents, not because they lacked merit, but because no one had taught them how to advocate for themselves in a Western academic context.
SOPmandu was born in 2017 from a tiny apartment in Kathmandu with a laptop, a shared Google Doc, and a deep conviction: every student who works hard enough to dream internationally deserves writing support that meets their ambition.
What began as helping a handful of friends evolved into a trusted service that has since guided over two thousand students to universities across 30+ countries — and we're only getting started.
